Sometimes you arrive somewhere at exactly the right moment.

After thousands of miles on The Road Ahead, Colorado welcomed us with mountains, brilliant blue skies and aspens glowing gold beneath enormous white clouds.

It was one of those scenes that made us stop.

After the Gulf Coast of Texas and the red-rock landscapes of Arizona, the journey had changed again. Suddenly we were surrounded by cool mountain air, evergreens and brilliant fall color stretching across the landscape.

And standing there looking at those golden aspens against the mountains, I knew we'd found Colorado's photograph.

This is “Colorado Gold.”

This image has been selected as Edition #008 of The American Road Collection, created as Lana, Korra and I travel thousands of miles across America in our 2014 Subaru Crosstrek—attempting to visit all 58 Buc-ee's across 14 states in 21 days while creating an entirely new fine-art collection along the way.

In every state, I'm creating one signature fine-art photograph—not something planned months in advance, but an image discovered through the places, weather, light and unexpected moments we encounter along the journey.

That's what makes this collection so personal to me.

We have to live the story before I can create the photograph.

And Colorado gave us gold. 💛🏔️
