Smoky Mountain Fire — Edition #011

Tennessee Mountains | The American Road Collection

There are evenings when the mountains seem to disappear into the horizon—and the sky above them comes alive.

“Smoky Mountain Fire” captures one of those moments.

Layer after layer of Tennessee mountains fades into shades of deep blue across the horizon while the setting sun burns through a brilliant sky of gold, orange and red.

For a few fleeting minutes, the cool blue mountains below and fiery sky above seemed to meet in the distance.

After the miles, the Buc-ee’s stops and the roads that carried us across Tennessee, we watched the sun sink behind those endless ridgelines and knew this was the photograph we had been searching for.

This image has been selected as Edition #011 of The American Road Collection, created as Lana, Korra and I travel thousands of miles across America—attempting to visit all 58 Buc-ee’s across 14 states in 21 days while creating an entirely new fine-art collection along the way.

In each state, I'm creating one signature photograph that represents the landscapes, landmarks, light and unexpected moments we encounter along The Road Ahead.

Tennessee gave us rolling mountains stretching toward the horizon, that unmistakable blue haze and a sunset that seemed to set the entire sky on fire.

This is “Smoky Mountain Fire.”
