There are roads we travel simply to get somewhere.

And then there are roads that become part of the story.

While making our way across America, our journey brought us to Springfield, Missouri — the Birthplace of Route 66.

As sunset approached, we found this scene along one of the most legendary roads in America. The yellow centerline leads directly through the Route 66 gateway as the setting sun falls perfectly into the distance beyond it.

For a collection called The Road Ahead, it felt like the photograph Missouri was meant to give us.

Route 66 has carried generations of travelers toward new places, new opportunities, and unknown chapters ahead. Now, during a chapter of our own lives built around doing exactly that, we had the opportunity to capture it.

“The Mother Road” represents Missouri in The American Road Collection — one signature photograph created in each state during our attempt to visit 58 Buc-ee’s locations across 14 states in 21 days, while living, traveling, and creating from our Subaru.
