Where Roads Cross — Edition #012

Kentucky River | The American Road Collection

There are places where the road becomes just as much a part of the landscape as the land surrounding it.

“Where Roads Cross” captures one of those places on a quiet Kentucky morning.

Looking across the Kentucky River, morning fog drifts through the valley and across the water while the first colors of autumn begin to appear in the trees below. The I-75 bridge stretches high above the river alongside an older iron bridge, carrying travelers through a landscape shaped by generations of crossings.

As the first pastel light of sunrise filled the sky, the fog slowly began revealing the river, bridges and Kentucky countryside beneath us.

After traveling mile after mile across America, there was something fitting about finding Kentucky's photograph here.

A river winding below us.

Bridges connecting one side to another.

And another road carrying us toward whatever waited ahead.

This image has been selected as Edition #012 of The American Road Collection, created as Lana, Korra and I travel thousands of miles across America—attempting to visit all 58 Buc-ee’s across 14 states in 21 days while creating an entirely new fine-art collection along the way.

In each state, I'm creating one signature photograph that represents the landscapes, landmarks, light and unexpected moments we encounter along The Road Ahead.

Kentucky gave us autumn color, a river wrapped in morning mist and two generations of bridges carrying travelers across the landscape.

This is “Where Roads Cross.”
